Overview
A Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) is a group of workstations, servers and network devices with same set of requirement that appear to be on the same LAN despite their geographical location. A VLAN allows a network of computers to communicate in an environment as if they exist in a single LAN. VLAN’s are implemented to achieve scalability, security and ease of network management and can quickly adapt to change in network requirements and relocation of workstations and server nodes.
VLAN is used to divide the Broadcast domain by tagging the frames. VLAN ID is considered to tag a frame.
VLAN’s can keep network applications separate despite being connected to the same physical network, and without requiring multiple sets of cabling and networking devices to be deployed.
Seqrite UTM supports 802.1Q VLAN encapsulation standard. The standard defines a system of VLAN tagging for Ethernet frames. It is important that the switch port which is connected to UTM LAN interface must be configured as TRUNK with 802.1Q encapsulation.
Note: Adding an interface does not add a physical port on Seqrite UTM. The number of ports will be the same that are the default ports depending on the Seqrite UTM model.
Applicable Version: All
Scenario
Configuration
Configuring VLAN in Seqrite UTM.
Eth0 (LAN) IP :192.168.1.1 /24
VLAN 10 : 192.168.10.1 /24
VLAN 20 : 192.168.20.1 /24
VLAN 30 : 192.168.30.1 /24
Step 1. Navigating from Functional options
Step 2. Adding VLAN
Type | Select the Type as VLAN. |
VLAN ID | It defines the tagging of the frames according to the IEEE 802.1Q encapsulation standard. VLAN ID can from 1 - 4096 |
Zone | Select the Zone as LAN/WAN/DMZ where the Virtual LAN will be created |
Base Interface | It will the physical interface onto which we want to configure the VLAN. Note: We can only configure the alias on configured interface |
IP Assignment | Default IP Assignment will be Static |
IPv4 | Enter the IPv4 address provided by the Service provider |
Subnet Mask | Enter the subnet mask provided by the Service provider |
Step 3. Configuring VLAN for 192.168.10.1 /24 with VLAN ID 10 on Seqrite UTM
Step 4. Verification of VLAN configuration
Note: We can Disable the status of the configured interface by Disabling the toggle button in front of the interface.
