Add removable/external device in exception without encryption: : EPS Cloud (UEM)

Overview: This article describes the process to add the removable/external device in exception without encryption.

Applicable Version: All Versions of UEM.

Configuration Steps:

1. Log in to the “Seqrite Endpoint Security Cloud” web console.

2. Go to “Configurations > Device Control”.

3. Click on “Add devices” and select the “USB Devices” option.

NOTE: The list of removable/ external devices appears, which are already added in the device exception.

4. The “Add Device” dialog appears.

In order to authorize the device, please “Click here” to download the Device Control package.

Cleaning USB device
Before adding a device to the Device Control tool (dcconfig tool), clean the disk.

1. To clean the disk, follow these steps:
Steps:

- Run CMD as Admin

- type Diskpart (to run disk partition wizard)

- type list disk

- type select disk_name (disk_name: Select disk as applicable for the USB attached )

- type clean

- type convert MBR

2. Do a healthy partition using diskmgmt.msc
Now the disk is ready to be added.

Unpack the Device Control package (DEVCTRL.7Z) after the download is finished. Then follow the following steps to authorize the device:

a) Run DCCONFIG.EXE Device Control dialog appears.
b) Attach device.
c) Click the Retrieve button to view the details of the device attached.
d) The device details appear in the Device control dialog. In the Device name box, enter the device name.
e) To authorize the device, do one of the following:
f) Select the Make this device accessible only within your corporate network checkbox. 

--->Should be unchecked for No encryption.

g) Click on encrypt this device to encrypt the device. 

--->Should be unchecked for No encryption.

h) Click on Save To File. A file will be created.
Note: We can authorize a single device one by one.

5. Click on “Browse” to upload the Device Control file and then click on “Add” to add the device to the exception.

Adding exceptions to the device control policy:
a) You can add exceptions for removable devices that are used by authorized persons so that the devices are excluded from the policy.
b) Log on to the Seqrite Endpoint Security Web console.
c) Go to policies >policy settings>Advanced device control>Exceptions>Add.

d) The Managed Devices dialog box displays the list of authorized devices.
e) Toggle the “Add to Exceptions” button for that device. Click “OK”.
f) Click “Yes” on the Managed Devices confirmation dialog box. The device is now added to the list of exceptions. Click on “Save Policy”.

Note: We can add a removable device one by one in the device exception as per the given procedure.
