How to configure MAC address base authentication

OVERVIEW

This article describes how to allow internet access using the system MAC Address.

This feature provides flexibility to authenticate a user without using any authentication method. Based on system MAC address user will be authenticated. This can apply at gateway mode connected systems only.


Only Single MAC address can be added in a single rule.

Note: If the user using both (Wireless and physical LAN) then need to create two different rule for both LAN card to allow internet access and vice-versa.


Applicable Version: 2.4 and Above

Scenario:

In the below scenario Admin user connected with UTM.

To access the internet, the Admin user needs to authenticate using the system’s MAC address.

Configuration:

Navigate to Command prompt

Type:”getmac” for find MAC Address information

Now need to configure MAC Address into UTM.

Navigate to User Management > User

ADD(+) user

Select User type: MAC Address and ADD MAC Address information

Apply to save the rule

NOTE: Internet Quota and traffic shaping policies are not applicable for MAC
