Upgrading Windows 10 to latest version through Seqrite Patch Management

Overview:

This article describes how to configure Seqrite Patch Server to get upgrade patches for Windows 10 operating system using newly added ‘Upgrades’ category through Seqrite Endpoint Security 7.6 Service Pack 5.
This will help the Administrator to upgrade Windows 10 Operating System to the latest released version.

Applicable OS: Windows 10 RS1 (1607) and above

With Seqrite EPS 7.6 Service Pack 5, Upgrade support is added for Windows 10 Operating system through Seqrite Patch management. Administrator can configure Seqrite Patch Management to synchronize Upgrade patches for Windows 10 operating system.

Prerequisites:

1. Seqrite Endpoint Security (EPS) must be installed and activated.
2. Seqrite Patch Management must be installed and configured with Seqrite EPS server
3. Service Pack 5 must be applied on Seqrite EPS 7.6 server, To check current Service pack version, Click here
4. Perform patch synchronization to get the newly added ‘Upgrades’ category.

Configuring Seqrite Patch Server to synchronize Upgrade Patches for Windows 10 Operating system

To configure Seqrite Patch Server, follow these steps.
1. Log on to Seqrite Endpoint Security Web console.
2. Go to Admin Settings > Server > Patch Management.
3. On the Patch Management page, click the Configure Patch Server tab.
4. Select the patch server from the list. Configuration section appears.
5. Click Filters to specify filters for patch synchronization. Windows Patch Synchronization Settings dialog appears.
6. In the Products tab, under Microsoft > Windows, select “Windows 10” and “Windows 10, version 1903 and later” check boxes.


7. In the Categories tab, select the Upgrades check box.


8. Click Apply to apply the configuration settings.
9. Click Start to run Patch Synchronization
10. After successful Patch Synchronization, perform Patch Scan for Endpoints with Windows 10 OS.
11. Go to Clients > Client Action > Patch Install. Patch Install page appears.
12. The list of upgrades available for existing version of Windows 10 OS appears.


13. Select the upgrade patches and Click Start Install.

Note: Seqrite recommends upgrading to the latest version of Windows 10.


More Information:
1. Support for OS Upgrade is only applicable for upgradation of Windows 10 Operating system to its higher build versions.

2. The latest version of Windows 10 will be available through Patch Management only when Microsoft makes it available for Microsoft Update Server and WSUS channel

3. For patch synchronization of Windows 10 Upgrade:
      a. Select Category as “Upgrade”.
      b. Select Products as “Windows 10” and “Windows 10, version 1903 and later”.

4. Windows 10 OS Upgrade is supported from Windows 10 RS1 (1507 build version) and higher.

5. You may see multiple upgrades available for an endpoint after Patch Scan. This result is based on the currently installed Windows 10 Version of the Endpoint.

6. Installing upgrade patches through Schedule Patch Scan and Install is disabled. Upgrade patches needs to be installed manually.

7. If you wish to avoid non-compulsory download of upgrade patches you may disable ‘Automatic Download’ from EPS Console -> Admin Settings -> Patch Management -> Configure Patch Server -> Configuration.

8. Upgrades for Windows 7 and 8.1 Operating Systems: Upgrades for Windows 7 and 8.1 to Windows 10 may be listed after patch scan, but it is not recommended to upgrade Windows 7 & 8.1 to Windows 10 through Patch Management as it may fail since the upgrade from Windows 7, 8.1 to Windows 10 requires user interaction during downloading and installing.

9. Upgrade from Windows 10 1903 (19H1) to Windows 10 1909 (19H2) is only available if latest cumulative and servicing stack updates are installed.

10. Upgrade from Windows 10 2004 (20H1) to Windows 10 20H2 is only available if latest cumulative and servicing stack updates are installed.

12. OS upgrade is not supported for the Server Operating Systems.

Important Note:

In some cases, OS Upgrade may fail in the boot phase and will revert to the previous OS version. This is due to Windows components handling the upgrade process. The OS upgrade patches will be listed under missing patches when patch scan is performed again for the client.
